This recipe is more geared towards kids because what kid doesn’t like a “candy” with a gummy texture? Better yet, it is packed full of immune boosting power!!
When I started researching the ingredients in children’s chewable vitamins, it was difficult to find any without added sugar, natural flavors, food dye or other sketchy ingredients.
I soon realized it’s super easy to make your own gummy vitamins. They are very easy to customise based on specific needs.
Vitamin D and Vitamin B 12 are two vitamin supplements I use the most. They are very important for gut health, especially in IBD. I have found a clean liquid version and easily added them to my homemade vitamins.
I also sneak a good amount of turmeric and ginger in to ensure that my kids are getting their daily dose of these immune boosting superfoods.
Part of the fun of making these is playing around with different shapes. I use silicone molds so they pop out easy. You can find just about any shape molds on Amazon so have fun with it!
Ingredients:
1 cup of orange juice (fresh squeezed is best. If store bought, ensure there is no added sugar)
1/2 cup pure pomegranate juice (no added sugar)
1/3 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp fresh grated ginger
1 tsp fresh grated turmeric
4 tbsp gelatin*
*I use Great Lakes Gelatin which is made with pasture raised grass-fed cattle.
Directions:
In a medium saucepan, bring the juices, honey, ginger and tumeric to a light boil.
Whisk in the gelatin slowly until there are no visible clumps.
Let mixture cool a bit then strain it into a glass cup with pouring spout.
Place silicone molds on a baking tray for easy transfer. Pour mixture into silicone molds and place in fridge for at least 3 hours or until set.
