A golden milk latte is a creamy, sweet and super nutritious drink that will boost your health, your mood and may even help you achieve better sleep if drank in the evening.
If you enjoy a chai latte, you will love this sweet and spicy beverage but without the caffeine. It is very quick and easy to make and is also one of the best and most delicious ways to add turmeric to your diet everyday.
Not only is turmeric one of the best foods to consume for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, it is also known to have anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties as well.
You can use any type of milk, however I prefer a dairy-free mixture of an unsweetened nut milk and a full fat coconut milk. Turmeric is fat-soluble, meaning that without a little bit of fat, the curcumin (active component in turmeric) will not be absorbed into your blood stream as well. The coconut milk provides an excellent source of “good” saturated fats, also known as medium chain fatty acids, which are essential for our body’s health.
The pinch of ground pepper is also a key ingredient since it will help your body to better absorb the cucurmin in turmeric by a thousand fold!
For convenience sake, I used ground powdered turmeric and ginger. Fresh grated is an option, however the mixture may require straining prior to drinking.
Ingredients:
1.5 cups of unsweetened nut milk
1.5 cups of coconut milk
1 tsp ground turmeric
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground pepper
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
Directions:
Combine milk and spices in a saucepan and heat on medium heat for about 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently. Bring mixture to a simmer but do not let it come to a boil.
Turn off heat and add vanilla and honey.
Stir and enjoy!
Makes 2 mugs of latte. You can double this recipe as it will keep in the fridge for several days and reheated as needed.
