Dragonfruit Immunity Smoothie

Could a smoothie have a more beautiful color than this one? The secret ingredient to get this vibrant pink could only come from dragon fruit, also known as pitaya.

Dragon fruit has become very popular in recent years, with many grocery stores offering frozen dragon fruit purée to be used for smoothies.

It boasts many health benefits too!

✔️High in fiber which can help ease constipation

✔️High in vitamin C to enhance your immune system

✔️Rich in antioxidants to help protect your cells from damage

✔️Contains prebiotics which feed your good gut bacteria

✔️Great source of magnesium

Ingredients:

1 banana

1 package frozen dragon fruit purée (about 4 oz)

2 oranges (rind removed)

1/2 inch knob of fresh ginger

1/2 cup shelled hemp seeds

1 cup orange juice or coconut water

1 cup coconut milk

6 mint leaves

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a high speed blender blender for 60 seconds and enjoy!

A note about smoothies: I usually add 1/2 cup of hemp hearts or 1/4 cup pure collagen powder for added protein to all my smoothies. It can be omitted without affecting the flavor. But it is a great way to sneak in more protein and it helps to lessen any blood sugar spike due to the consumption of natural fruit sugar and fruit juice.

A note about dragon fruit: I’ve only seen the white-flesh dragon fruit here in the grocery store sold as a fresh fruit. To achieve this vibrant colour and flavour, look in your frozen section for frozen red-flesh dragon fruit smoothie purée (preferably without added sugar).
